Your Complete Guide to Railways Exam | All You Need to Know About Railways Exam 2019 Group A, B, C, D
Indian Railways is the largest network of railways in Asia. It is also the largest Govt of India public undertaking and offers a great number of employment opportunities.
Different posts of Indian Railways are categorized into four groups – A, B, C, and D. Every post has different eligibility criteria.
Let’s know more about the various groups.
Group A – includes officer-level positions. Entry to most of these positions is given through the Civil Services exam conducted by the UPSC. Other than this, vacancies are filled through Engineering Services exam and Combined Medical exams.
Group B – also includes officer-level positions. Most of these are filled by promoting Group C employees.
Group C (Non-Popular Technical Category or NTPC) – Two types of positions come under this category: Undergraduate posts and Graduate posts.
Undergraduate posts include Junior Clerk cum Typist, Account Clerk cum Typist, Junior Timekeeper, Train Clerk, Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, etc. The age limit for this category is 18-30 years and the minimum educational qualification is class 12th.
The second sub-category is Graduate including various posts like Assistant Station Master, Goods Guard, Senior Timekeeper, Ticket Collector, Traffic Assistant, Commercial Apprentice, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, etc. 18-33 years is the age limit for this category and graduation is the minimum educational qualification.
Prepare for RRB NTPC Exam
With more than 35,000 vacancies announced for the post of RRB NTPC 2019, this is surely an extraordinary opportunity for those graduates who seek to get through the government sector. However, with millions of applicants to appear for the exam, it is important to have a clear strategy in place to clear the exam in one go and not miss out on this golden opportunity.
RRB NTPC exam is conducted in two phases. The first phase is the 90-minutes long PT-CBT exam including 40 GK questions, 30 questions on mathematics and 35 questions on general intelligence and reasoning. The paper has 100 objective type MCQ carrying 1 mark each. Negative marking is applicable in this paper and 1/3rd of a mark is deducted for every wrong answer.
Candidates qualifying PT-CBT exam are eligible to appear for the second and final phase. This is also a 90-minutes paper including 50 GK-based questions, 35 questions on mathematics and 35 reasoning & general intelligence-based questions. The paper carries a total of 120 marks.
Note: Computer-based Aptitude Test is also conducted for the posts of Traffic Assistant and Station Master. Document verification and medical examination are done after qualifying both rounds and final appointment is based on the successful completion of these process.
Group D – includes various posts like Track Maintainer, Assistant Pointmen, Gangmen, Helper, etc. The selection for these posts is done through the Computer-based Test (CBT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). CBT test consists of 25 general science questions, 25 mathematics based questions, 30 questions on reasoning and 20 general awareness questions. The 100 mark paper is of 90-minutes and includes negative marking. PET has different criteria for males and females. The final appointment is based on the successful completion of document verification and medical examination.
Important Tips for RRB NTPC Exam
Mathematics-based questions: Mathematics question in the exam tests your speed and accuracy. It is essential to first understand the question and then solve it. First of all, read NCERT class VI-X textbooks and resolve the questions. Take a quantitative aptitude book and practice the questions.
Don’t rush with the reasoning questions: The purpose of this section is to test your understanding and thinking process. It includes verbal and non-verbal questions. Regular practice is of utmost importance for these questions. Assess the question before attempting to answer and don’t rush before with answers as you may tend to make mistakes. Ensure to check your answer twice before marking it.
General Awareness preparation: Prepare from NCERT history, geography, and civics textbooks of class VI-XII. Read newspapers regularly. Solve previous year question papers and read competitive exam based monthly magazine Pratiyogita Nirdeshika regularly.
Pay special attention to the general science question. You can rely on NCERT textbooks along with Spectrum and Vigyan Pragati.
General Tips:
Regular practice and good reference material is the key. Plan well and strategize your studies. Prepare a timetable, if needed.
Current Affairs from various sources including newspapers, digital media, news channels, and magazines are a must to take note of.
